These are my new babies (not to be confused with fry, my fish are just my replacement for children!) Never thought I'd have a harder time finding common but undesired fish over some of the rarer things I've had. But, after 6+ months of searching, I've expanded my non-pleco catfish family from 3 to 7. These were sold as Porthole Catfish (dianema longibarbis), and I thought they were initially. But now that they're settled in and colored up, I'm thinking I ended up with 4 more hoplosternum littorale that are just rather young.

What do you guys think I've got (the small ones); pics below. The larger and much darker cat is one of my original trio.

Whatever they are, they're sure settle in fast. 10 minutes after hitting the tank they're nosing around in the sand and taking NLS Thera +A.

I've also got a chance to get what I believe are megalechis personata for a very low price, but it would be via mail, and I'm not so sure I want to take that risk. With 2 day shipping, what are realistic odds of 4 fairly robust fish arriving intact in 60-66 degree weather? I just can't justify paying triple the shipping cost for overnight.

Thanks, and happy new year!

Thanks! They're very personable, active and don't let any food go to waste at all. They'll even try to eat your fingers though they don't have much luck with that mouth of theirs. I wish they were more popular because they really are an awesome fish. Guess they just aren't flashy enough in the stores :)
