Okay so the nano tank's clear plastic baffle works best when the tank is full of water, but even with a 1/2 inch of evap like in this photo the water is much less turbulent. This nano filter cranks and we have it full blast, we could reduce flow but need max filtration so this keeps it in check

Also, the internal filter I used a black cloth headband from the drugstore, unused so no hair products were ever on it! It is hard to capture black on black in My currently backlit tank here at 9am. Hope it makes sense I took pics with a hair band to illustrate what I did on the same brand filter. Adapt to any intake for HOB type filter.

The pictures are very helpful. I get the plastic thing and I think I get the handband thing. You just put it over the intake right? I figure I can probably get a piece of cloth and attach it to the intake to slow down the water going into the filter.

Yep cut a strip to the right size/shape, just use brand new unused or laundered cotton, I used a stretchy cotton some blend perhaps but ill say cotton to be on safe side

My son has some good cotton tshirts he outgrew a long time ago. I think I'll use one of them. He'll never know they are gone!

Rinse like crazy-- detergents in fabric softeners etc are hard to remove, so I've heard

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Too bad I don't have some kind of filter sponge to put around the intake. I bet that would work OK. I'll have to think on this today and see what I can come up with.

U can buy new sponges and cut them to fit. I look at the clearance fish stuff and get lucky with random filters I then cut open and reuse all sorts of ways in and around my filters.

I finally got home from work, found a t-shirt, cut off a piece, rinsed it out, wired it to my intake on the filter, and when I went to put the filter back on the tank my little girl was swimming all over the tank so I think I'm going to leave the filter off for a while. That's the first time I've seen her off the bottom. I took a picture!

Me too! I guess I'd better turn my filter back on tonight so that my BB will stay good. I'll see how much teh tshirt around the intake works. I don't think I'll ever be able to move her to my 55 gal. There is too much surface movement for her I think. I'm running a Fluval 405 cannister filter on it and it puts out a lot of water.

You're probably right. I think I'll make that little 5 gal her personal tank. It was originally set up to be my QT but I think she can have it now. She is fun to watch. I need a more comfortable chair in front of that tank though. Right now I just sit on a step stool to watch her. LOL!!
