New To Fish- Temperature?

Hello, My daughter went to college and now we are the fish caretakers. I want to save money/heat by shutting off the vents in her basement room to give more heat to the rest of the house. Problem is it’s 30 degrees F outside and 55 near tank in room in basement. Temps get to 50F in room when it’s around 0F out. Will the fish be ok with these temps?

50 gallon freshwater tank. Fish are 3-4 years old.

No heater in the tank? You can buy one for less than 15 usd that will run on a few cents a month. Then you have peace of mind

One 300 watt heater should do it, assuming you want the tank at around 75 degrees.

Yeah, and I don't know the cost breakdown, but I'm guessing prob no more than a couple of dollars per month or so

I said a few cents per month originally, but I meant few cents per week. I'm old and forgetful, just ask my wife, lol
