Nitrites during cycling

I am doing a fish-in cycle. In my 3rd week and nitrites have finally started to go up. What is the max safe level of nitrites during the cycle?

I have a 50g cichlid tank with 4 small mbunas.
Ammo is .1. Nitrites .7. Nitrates 0. Ph 8.3.

It's hard to say for sure, the standard general amount given is .25; .5 max. WIth nitrites over .5 and ammonia at 1 though I'd do a 50% water change.

You can afford to get a little higher than that if you're salting the tank, which many cichlid keepers tend to do.
