no guppies and bettas together?

I have been told by two stores now one or the other, apparently i shouldnt get guppies if i have a betta. Is that true if so which shall i pick i absolutly love bettas and i quite like guppies too.

Tank is 54ltr btw

I've had a few guppies in with a betta before, and it was fine. I've also had a few guppies in with my current betta, and he was constantly attacking their tails.

I think it depends a lot on your betta. Other fish with long flowy tails might be seen as competitors to the betta, and the betta will attack.

I've had good luck with my betta in with cory cats, small tetras, and snails.
 
+1 I have a betta that will attack my guppies. I have kept a betta with a school of neon tetra's and cory cats before.
