Overpowered Tank Filter

Hello! A few months back I was given a new filter for my 27 gal tank. The person who got it for me purposely got a filter for a 40-50 gal tank. I was happy with it for a while because I desperately needed a new filter, but after a while I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just too much. Is there any way I can get the filter to not pump as much? It’s a Marineland brand. Thank you!

Here is one way to slow the flow, just add some sponges to the outflow. I've heard of folks using a water bottle cut down the length and fitted over the outflow to baffle the water to the sides also.
