hi. not sure if ive posted in the right forum. my friend decided he did not have the time for his small aquarium any more so i inherited his only parrot fish as i did not want to see it go to a bad owner or left to die. my friends aquarium was small and filthy so i thought the little guy would thrive in my well maintained 300 litre community aquarium with excellent filtration but it seems quite the opposite. after only a day of being introduced he is laying on the bottom with clamped fins. all my other fish are completely fine. the tank has been up and running for a few years. can a fish get shock from moving to a new setup? or maybe the p.h was different? it seems crazy that he was better off in my friends filthy aquarium?

I commend you for rescuing fish, some of my personal favorites are rescues. I would give the fish some time to get used to his new home, it's very stressful moving and fish can sulk for up to a week. My best advice is turn out the lights for a couple of days, don't feed, and keep the water conditions pristine and I'm sure he'll come around.

What are your water parameters? What kit are you testing with? Kudos for rescuing fish!

im pleased to say he looks like he has made a full recovery (touch wood) maybe he was just stressed out from having new tank mates after being on his own for so long? i would not go out and buy a parrot cichlid as i know they are a hybrid and are not even present in the wild but now that ive inherited him i think hes kinda cool!
