I am thinking of using peat moss in a filter for my newly aquired 125. I plan on trying to emulate a blackwater biotope. Main fish are plecos and uarus. I know they don't NEED super soft water but they will appreciate it. My tap it quite hard but doesn't read high after mechanical softening. I am just wondering how to use peat moss. I have never used it before. I figured you just bag it and throw it in a canister filter. Thats what I plan to do anyway. How long does it last? How much will I need? Any info would help TIA

It depends on how much water is going through it. It can be done and I've done it with a 37g tank. I used it as the base substrate then covered that with sand (planted tank west african tank) and also use it in the filter and was able to keep the ph stable at about 5.5. But in a 125 that's a major project.
