Peat moss Q

Is the pH drop for peat moss permanent, or does it raise back up over time like with driftwood?

i find it will go up a wee bit after a water change, but then drops again within 24 hours (It doesn't go up much).... after a while it becomes less effective and should be replaced, but as I'm in my 1st few months of this method myself, I'm not sure how long it takes until it needs to be replaced.... HTH
