I had my dwarf gourami for about 4 1/2 months. He just died the other day after getting what looked like finrot. I checked my water parameters( freshwater master test kit) and they were: ammonia: 0 nitrites: 0 nitrates: 0 ph: 8.6
Could the high PH possible have stressed him and caused him to get an infection? Are they naturally delicate? I did have a crab that sliced his back tail once, but it healed. Could this have caused an infection 2 months later?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You should have some nitrate. I don't know how you could have no ammonia, nirite or nitrate. Do you clean out the whole tank sometimes? Meaning do you change the filter media a lot, change all the water and rinse with tap water or something? Try retesting the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Are there no fish in there now?

There are 4 fish in there in a 10 gal.
1 tiger barb 1 1/2 inch
2 giant danios 2 1/2 inch
1 otto 1 1/2 inch

I found that odd as well. I only do 10% water changes every week. I change the filter cartridge once every 3 months.
