Hello Miss...
Add some individual stems of a floating plant like Water sprite, Anacharis, Penny wort and Hornwort to the tank to provide a food supplement and hiding places for the fry. If you keep the tank water extremely clean, these fish will be fine in a 55 gallon tank.
