So I've had a heck of a time setting up, my first atempt was an absolute failure . But after much deliberation and research , I have it set up once again an running it threw its cycle just the other day I bought 2 platys , male and female who at this point seem to be doing just fine they have found many hiding spots and follow oneanother everywhere, and are quite active ..... Shouldn't they be working up an apitite. I have had them in there for about 3 days , feeding them a pinch of fish flakes every day, when they are active. But to no prevail they seem to be more interested in themselves than eating. I even tried other foods like freeze dried brine shrimp and tetra min flakes, in addition to the flakes I started with. Is this normal ?????

A combination of being in a new environment and the ammonia of the cycling tank. Keep up the water changes to keep it as low as possible and keep offering them food. Make sure you remove any uneaten food because it will contribute to the ammonia.

I will keep up on the water changes as well as offering them food. You have once again been very helpful and knowledgeable.

Your platies should start eating before long... Recently when I added a new platy for my male and she was afraid, shy and timid... After about a week she started coming to the glass and showing interest in what I was doing... In the beginning she wouldn't eat unless the food passed by her and she felt confident enough to take a nibble. Went from that to my male escorting her around during feeding time... Literally watching her eat and then eating himself... Interesting to watch... Shows fish have emotions and empathy...
Now today after 10 days she swims to see me and eat almost immediately...
Also, as Mumma said, any stressors of a cycling tank can contribute to behavior..

Happy to say plates are happily eating now and seem to have adjusted well to there new surroundings. Thanks for the advice, guess I was all worried fer nothing... Oh well better to be safe than sorry right
