The pool filter sand I use is like beach sand really, not sharp at all. I haven't seen any around here that is too sharp but you could check it out before buying it.

I already have it but I don't know how to tell if it's sharp or not. Should I try rubbing my fingers between it or something?

I would roll it around in my fingers. See if it feels sharp. I have always read that PFS is fine even recomended for bottom dwellers.

If you already have it, yes rub it between your fingers. I would not expect it to be sharp. My fish love it. My cichlids move it around by their mouths and have suffered absolutely no ill effects.

I have only come across one brand of pfs that was sharp. But most is smooth. If you roll it around in your fingers and it feels smooth, it's fine. :D

Thanks everyone. :)
I'm thinking of using it in the 55g and putting some Botia striata in there so that is why I asked.
