I have a 100W heater in my 29 gallon. Recently it will start to get so hot, bubbles form all over it. Well i looked last night and it was cherry red. Each of the coils were litterally cherry red lol. I took it out of the tank and the water that was on it was instantly gone. I touched it to a drip of water and it turned instantly to steam. Is that normal with a 100w? im use to my 50w not being so agressive i guess.

No, what kind of heater is it? My 250w does get hot if I touch it under the water.

Also stick it in a bucket w/ a thermometer to make sure it holds the temp fine

It sounds to me like time for a new heater. Something has probably shorted out in your heater causing it to stay on at max all the time.

well it cuts off.. thats the thing.. it just takes a few seconds though and its glowing red hot. ive never seen coils just turn red in seconds like this.. ill put up a picture in a second. Btw.. its only like a week old =(
