So I have about 5 planted tanks and we had a huge storm that knocked out the power. I'm wondering how long the tanks can go without water movement. I may do a water change tonight to try and help them out but aside from the battery powered air pumps I'm not sure what to do or how long before things get bad.

You should have enough oxygen in the tanks so you'll be fine for several hours ... and having battery air pumps for surface agitation will help. If this happens during winter ... and its a heated tank .. cover it with towels to conserve heat.
