Pronounce Cichlid

I know . . . stupid question. I have always pronounced it "sik-lid", but a friend of mine called it "chik-lid". We started talking about it, but I couldn't prove either way. Infact, I don't know where I started calling it "sik-lid". So what is the correct way to say it?

It is indeed 'sick-lid'. We have a pronounciations thread (a 'sticky' one, I believe) that I seem to remember being started with just this very question.

when your eyes see cichlid they automatically see the CH which makes the sound CH.. but the CI is before the CH which is why you say "Sick" instead of "Chic"

The funny thing was, it never occured to me that I should probably look it up in the Dictionary. Just wasn't thinking I guess. But the point is now we know for sure how to say it.
