Just a question... Why is it that you almost never hear of a protein skimmer being ran on a FW set up? They work great for salt water (removes proteins before they have a chance to be chemically broken down to Amonia/nitrites/nitrates) Seems like they would be especially benificial in African Cichlid tanks that tend to be over stocked and produce a lot of waste. Any comments are greatly appreciated! Thank you
Dean

FW isn't dense enough for the skimmer to work effectively. You can use a skimmer on FW, but to get any performance at all from it, it would have to be like 6' tall. Foam fractionation has been in use at wastewater treatment plants for years.
