question for a friend (newbie)

So a friend of mine wants to get into the aquarium thing. He wants to start with a 10 gallon and he wants fish that "aren't boring". I can think of a lot of ideas, but I thought I'd ask the experts

He'd want colorful fish, and probably more than one species. Let me know what you think!

Neon Tetras, male Guppies.

If he wants a nice school, there are lots of Nano Fish.

Try and convince him to start with a 20 gal, not much bigger footprint and a lot more options.
