Questions regarding canister filter media

I am considering getting the Aquatop CF-400UV for my new tank but I don't know much about canister filters as I have only ever owned HOB filters. Can someone give me some recommendations on what I should buy to fill it with (type of bio filtration, etc.) I know very little about this brand or canister filters in general so helpful tips on starting one up would also be appreciated. Thanks!

I have heard good things about this one. I hope it works well for you. As for filter media I would say a sponge or polyfill for mechanical filtration (actually removing floating particles) and then something like biomax to give the good BB plenty of room to grow. Hope this helps

If you buy from Aquatop it will come with one coarse pad, three cotton pads, a bag of carbon and bio-balls. Buy some bulk media to cut to fit and some ceramic rings and you are set.
