quick question please help

I am concerned because of the coal aspect also I know it is very fine. Do not know if it is sharp though.

Greenmaji recommends the Black Beauty Sand (same thing as you have stated) but I've never used it. I think another member on this site uses it. Hopefully they will chime in. But as far as I know, it's fine to use.

Not a problem Zagz. I know that GM has recommended it to others as an alternative to Pool Filter and Play sand.

I don't know if it is sharp or not. But I believe that there has been a fair amount of research done using it in horticultural applications.

It is minerals and unburned/unconverted carbon. There is also char-free slag, but I don't know where you would find that. My guess is that you may want to keep an eye on the KH if you use slag.
