so apparently red devils(amphilophus labiatus) are being hunted because they pose threats to local native habitat. The links are in chinese but the basic gist of the story is that the locals are encouraged to hunt/eat red devils in order to dwindle the population of the red devils. they're outcompeting the native species for food and eating the eggs of the egg-layers in the area. I know i would love me some red devils in my tank especially when it's free (minus the airfare and licensing etc).
ps. also another reminder that we, the hobbyists, should never release fish into the wild. if anything, rehome/euthanize the fish. releasing them would do more harm than benefits.
