i have a brackish tank and i have debated getting one. I have been really pushed into getting one after dealing with the glass floating hydrometer for the past year. Im not trying to spend more then $30 which is the price of the cheaper ones on ebay. the problem is i dont know what im looking at when it comes to these things.

What do you mean you don't know what you are looking at? It sounds like you won't be looking at anything except price, in which case eBay is the place to go.

well i dont know what brands are crap, which ones to stay away from. does anyone have suggestions? i mean you can find products that are cheap but still decent quality.

I have a cheapo on and have no complaints. I have heard many others with the same opinion. As long as it has a screw and not a dial to calibrate and you calibrate and check it with RO on occasion you should be fine.
