hello.

will rotting vegetable matter affect water quality? how?

im asking this because a piece of carrot has entered a hole in a piece of coral in my tank. i was observing whether my fish would like carrot and that all happened.

well if its a tiny piece it should be fine and rot away

but if you were to leave a baby carrot it would rot and add ammonia and bring your water quality down

HTH

the fish you have will probably not eat any vegetables, but it all depends on the fish itself

veggies are mostly for plecos, ottos and other algae eaters :D

I have strange fish, my white and black lyretail mollies and my angels love veggies. The creamsicle mollies couldn't care less about veggies.

You might have to boil carrot or nuke it for a minute to make it soft enough for most fish to eat. Only suckermouth fish and snails will really go after raw carrot.
