hi i have another aquarium in the basement i was thinking of setting up and get goldfish would it be better to get sand or gravel which is better and easier to clean and can you use it for freshwater

I like pool filter sand personally, easier to clean. The only thing is if you don't have MTS, then you will have to manually stir the sand on occasion so anaerobic pockets don't build up. The MTS will do it for you. And for cleaning, you don't do a regular gravel vac, but instead, wave the vac across the top of the sand to kick up some of the crud and suck it up.

I prefer poolfilter sand with all my fish except my goldies. My goldies are constantly picking off the bottom and I think they would ingest a lot of sand. My goldies aren farily large.

What size is this tank? One goldie should have atleast a 29g tank. They are very messy so use a substrate that is easy to clean...or go barebottom.
