setting up my 40g, where can I steal BB from my Fluval 206 in my 36g?

I have a fluval 206 in my 36g, where can I steal BB from it to seed the 306 for my 40g? Can I take one of the foam filters out of the 206 (without a disturbance in the force ), replace it with a new one and set the foam in the 40g by the inlet?

on a side question, when I set up my 36g, I bought some BB from a guy online, big square of foam covered in BB and got the tank running but I've lost his URL and google is useless without the correct wording.

Have you thought of running the new filter, for the 40g, on your current tank for a week or two?

are the two interchangeable? Can I just place the foam filter in the 36g for a week or two to gather bb?

Are both filters canister? I only have hob filters, I haven't gotten into canisters yet, kinda pricy. I'm sure you can stuff a media cartridge into your established filter for awhile.
