I bought her at the pet store as a female Betta. I'm just wondering if she actually is a she. She's highly aggressive towards her own kind, and I've seen her do the little S dance and display that is common in male Bettas of breeding condition. I've had her for a few months now. She's currently in a ten gallon community tank with a few other tropical fish. I've thought she was a female halfmoon, and am now suspecting that she may actually be a male plakat. Or she may be a different variety altogether. She's got purple across most of her body, pink towards her face, and a streak of red on the top of her head.

Thank you!

I don't see an egg spot, so based on that and the fairly solid build I'd say male

So... Probably a male then? I guess I'd better change 'her' name to a unisex one haha. I know I was looking for an egg spot, too, and didn't really see one. The definite female I do have is larger in body than both my veil tail and crow tail males, so I was wondering if females generally are a little larger? This one's definitely the biggest out of all of them. Still a bit confused, but I'll be content in calling 'her' a male from now on. Thank you for your help, and any other thoughts or comments are welcome :)

Very nice looking betta. I had one that looked a lot like it (but more white). Unfortunately, it was a baby, and died before I ever even knew if it was male or female. No more Petsmart bettas for me!

Halfmoon female Betta is my guess.

Betta's are naturally [mod edit]s. I have a sorority and they all get along now. They had to establish the pecking order but they're good now and even swim around with my cory cats.
