I apologise for the picture quality and I may be wasting mine and everyone's time but can anyone tell if this is male or female betta as the fins were all beaten up when I bought him/her and the shop assistant didn't seem to know. Thanks [ATTACHImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1425150391.085889.jpg]265815[/ATTACH]

If it is a female, it should be a bit rounder in the abdomen and you should see a white spot ( that is actually an egg) at her vent. Males will be sleeker with no egg spot. From your pics, I would have to agree on it being a male but pictures can be deceiving so you need to use the aforementioned criteria. (y)

I've had a look for the egg and couldn't see anything. I noticed a slight beard when the fish flared once but then I they flared again and it wasn't there. I may just have to wait until the fins recover fully
