Females are usually smaller and chunkier. Their anal fin can be a bit more rounded than the male. You can't count on using the dorsal fin, my female has a long, flowing dorsal like the male.

ok thanks, i have 3 of them and was curious as to if i had any possible pairs
 
The one directly under the heater, with the dorsal raised looks male, the others, hard to tell. Just an FYI, they will still spawn with a 3rd one in the tank if you do have a male and female. Mine still spawn with their kids in their tank. They just keep them away from their cave.
