Unfortunately, LFS's give lots of false information.

AA provides profiles of many FW fish. Other good sites are:

Planetcatfish.com
Fishprofiles.com
mongabay.com
thekrib.com

thanks for the links and I checked the profile for the silvertip sharks on AA and it didnt say anything about adding salt or anything

my bad. cause I heard the silvertips are sometimes called black sharks but the black shark profile on AA is talking about another kind than I was thinking

Aquariumfish.net is a bad site for info

Sure they can live in freshwater while their young but as they get older they need brackish and then marine. Columbian sharks get too big and active for a 30 gal anyway.

freshwater->brackish->marine

BTW, aquarium salt is not good for making brackish conditions. It aids in treating diseases.
