Silver dollar males & females?

Hi there,

I have (4) silver dollar fish who are healthy and hungry! The seem to be growing well and Small Anubias leaves are no exception!
I put pictures up of them, hopefully I can have an insight of which is male, and which is female? Please? It would be helpful to know before hand. They also need names, so any names you think would be a good fit are highly encouraged! Thank you for your time! Iím having a hard time attaching 4 pictures. Iíll keep trying!

God bless,

Michelle Vasquez

Silver Dollars are very difficult to sex. In general, when sexually matured ( about 12-14 months old), the males will have a slightly longer anal fin than the females and if they are in excellent health, males will sometimes have some red on the fin. Here's the catch tho, there are a number of species of Silver Dollars so first you must know that you have all the same specie ( which is not always easy when small.)
If your goal is to breed them, best way is to keep a group of them together ( 6-10 or more) when small and let them grow out together in a large tank and let them decide for themselves who the breeders are going to be. Other than that, it's all just guess work.

As for names, since you really won't know their genders, I suggest " Fish #1, Fish #2, Fish #3, etc.

Hope this helps.

I’m working on getting a bigger tank to accommodate a few more of upgrade from 75 gallon to 115 gallon. Hopefully everything goes well and I can upgrade! Thank you for your response!

I suggest you try to go for as long a tank as possible since they like to swim a lot. Gallonage is no longer a reliable response since they make tall, wide and extra tall tanks. So since a 4 foot long 115 does not have the same swimming area as say, a 5 foot long 100 gallon tank, the 5 foot 100 gallon would be better for your Dollars. ( If you can go longer, even better. )

Hope this helps.
