My NLS pellets are about a year old. All of my fish still eat them, my angelfish just seem to prefer the flake. My rams eat both equally, as do the multis. The loaches actually love the NLS even though I have the cichlid formula
I've got 3 batches of angelfish fry right now, counting the wigglers this morning. Feels like more, the way they take up my time
Oh, and congrats unstopabullfish! I'll PM you later tonight! And tell me, what's your favorite fish??

I can save you the trip. I've not used Ken's before so I have no knowledge of just how good or bad it is. For the Angels, I currently and successfully used Omega One, Wardley's and/or Tetra flakes combined with FD Tubifex and frozen Brine shrimp. I've tried but discontinued Cobalt, Angel's Plus and varius samples of other brand's foods as I saw no difference in them or in the case of the Cobalt, the fish ignored the vitamin flakes so the cost of the food became too expensive for just the flakes. I did see an increased growth rate using the Angel's plus Growth flakes and may consider going back to it in the future if I don't get similar results from the Omega one I feed now. I buy that in 10 lb lots so I have more than enough food and that was the food I had used quite successfully before all my fry issues started.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Andy! I've been using Omega One all along, I love that stuff. I've clearly had good results with it so far But I'm running low and after our conversation about food thought I might get something different? I was planning on getting more omega one flakes anyway since the loaches love it (Yes they go to the surface for the flakes ) I think I'll get the kens and more omega one then. I've heard that Wardley has gone downhill but it could have been nonsense.

My friend is a big believer in Wardley's and uses it almost exclusively but has admitted that at times in the past, which he later found out why, his breeders did not respond as well to it. What he found out was that in the past few years, Wardley's had been changing the original recipe and during those changes, his fish were not spawning as well or having better results. He has spoken with the company and expressed his issues and they concurred and , from what I understand, have gone back to their best recipes. I can tell you from my own seeing, the fish have taken kindly to the change back. He has fry out the "Ying Yang". Oh, and he buys his in 25 lb lots so you know he uses a lot of food.

Wardley , as i understood, didnt change recipes. They changed the ratios of ingredients. Less good more filler. That way they didnt have to advertise "NEW" , and change all of their packagings. Shady business, but it was noticed, pointed out, and corrected. Wardley actually listened to their customer base.

I sit corrected. Yes, the results of the changes I was talking about was more fillers and less good stuff. I just wrote that as a "change" in the "recipe." But the bottom line is that they changed it back and the fish responded.

Oh they totally did.... I just put it that way to show how companies do shady stuff. All to save the re/new packaging cost to tell you its changed.

That's good to hear! Wardley pellets, especially their shrimp pellets, used to be practically a staple for my loaches. When I got active in the hobby again last year and somebody told me I shouldn't buy Wardley anymore I was pretty disappointed. Looks like I'm picking up some shrimp pellets to see if they still make loaches go crazy...
The list of fish stuff to buy never ends... 40 breeders, sponge filters, food by the pound.... It's a good thing I love this so much

I use the 'worm' flakes.
Earthworm,Blackworm,Bloodworm.
It can be argued kens is not the best food but I offer a wide variety of foods and all my fish including the fish I breed and raise eat these 2-3 a week at least.
My fish eat what ever I offer like piranhas .
Sometimes how fish take to food is in how it is offered.
I never leave flake on surface....
All is served wet and poured into water column...

That explains why my rams used to wait until the flake started sinking to eat it... they take off the surface now though! Is there an issue with that? I know some people suggest it causes bloat but again I've never seen it.
What brand do you use CB?

Most fish that are not insectirvores just don't want to eat from the surface.
It is not natural to them...and bloat....
I use kens flakes.
NLS 2 sizes, and many different frozen....
I just drop flakes into filter output or a plastic cup with water and swirl it around.
With sumps I can't let food sit on surface....

The thing with flakes though is they lose their nutritional value fast as it dissolves into the water, very thin and lots of surface area.
So pellets are better for lower feeding fish as they maintain their nutrition longer.
I don't know how true that is, but it makes sense to some extent....

Sini, you need to get new era tropical grazer. I just put it in without the suction cup so it sinks, and myloaches go crazy for it!

I can't get every kind of food xD The loaches are spoiled as it is, I don't need to get them more- they already get everything the breeding pairs get (frozen, flakes and pellets) plus algae wafers, sinking pellets, freeze dried krill, live snails, guppy fry, fresh/blanched fruits and veggies.... they eat better than I do But I may have to try that out sometime down the road!
Merry Christmas/Fishmas everybody! Christmas Eve is actually my favorite holiday.... In my family Christmas Eve was where all the religious aspects fell and tbh those parts are more important to me. Made some Christmas cookies today and church service tonight

When I was younger we used to Christmas carol around the neighborhood and then gather at ones house for hot cocoa or warm wine...
Midnight mass followed.
Merry Christmas sini and Miss G.
Enjoy your Christmas eve!
