Slate roof tiles

Was able to get a hold of some tiles from an old house being remodeled. Wondering best way to clean to make safe to use in aquarium. :thanks:
 
I would probably start by scrubbing them down, boiling them, and then soaking them in vinegar for a while.

The scrubbing and boiling should loosen up a lot of debris from them and a vinegar soak should help remove any deposits on them.
 
Scrubbing and boiling was my first steps will do vinegar soak. Worried about something leeching out of rock from years of exposure. THANKS for input
 
There shouldn't be to much on it but who knows. It would be safer just to go to home depot and pick up some slate floor tiles. They are dirt cheap.
