We have just done a water change and when we took the water out it smelt like rotten eggs. Any advice or tips would be appreciated

Umm yep lol lets see if I remember this lol

Gas pockets get stuck in the substrate and cause the smell. Its more common in deep sand beds then anything.

Just keep it stirred up during water changes. I clean half of mine then the other half on the next water change.

I see. I will do another water change in a couple days to see if that helps

Hello Ry...

The treatment that removes the chlorine and chloramine from the tap water has a rotten egg smell. If you're not changing out half the tank water when you do your water changes, then you might consider doing it. Small water changes do little to remove the waste material in the tank. The tank is an "unflushed" toilet, so the smell is likely a build up of fish waste and maybe you got a little smell of the water treatment.

Change half the tank water every week or two and your tank, fish, plants and all will be fine.
