Soak dry food (flakes, pellets) before feeding - is it really necessary?

I heard it prevents bloat especially when feeding brine shrimp and mealworms. I soak my mealworms with vita-Chem and aquarium water before feeding my betta or goldfishes

i should when i feed my fish freeze dried blood worms because when ever i feed it to them the neons have trouble not floating up to the top for a few hours.
