I am putting my betta down humanly due to no improvement and I have tried everything. I would like to get another one later but first are concerns how to sterilize it to make sure nothing gets passed down the mystery disease. My tank is 5.5 gallons and has one live plant . The decorations I will toss and start over. Very sad this is happening to me and yes this has me crying. She was my first since I lost two dogs months a part. :(

Take everything out and wash the tank with a strong salt solution. Then rinse rinse and rinse again. The rinse some more. Do the same thing with the gravel. It wouldn't hurt to let both the tank and the gravel dry out completely for a couple of months. You'll have to spread the gravel out and stir it until it is dry. Good luck.
