Stocking a 40 gallon tank, ideas?

Wanting to do a good looking tank. I have a 40 gallon, all ready to go. AQ70 on it, and another 30 gallon filter as well. Want a lot of activity, bright colors. Ideas?

Do you want schools peaceful or semi aggressive or fast moving fish and is it cycled

Yup it's cycled. I'd like one to two schools possibly. I'd like a schooling fish that schools the top, one that does the middle and maybe something for the bottom?

10 cardinal or rummy nose tetras
6 cherry barbs
A golden nugget Pleco
A trio of apistogramma
Try to avoid bottom dwellers, since the apisto's won't like it
Might have room for some more fish, Idk

I like the apistogramma idea. And tetras were one of my choices as well. Thanks!

Maybe a school of rainbows instead of the barbs depending on the species of course what kindve colors are you looking for I like the suggestion above as well
