Bettas don't go with guppies. No no. The Goldie would be fine for a week or so.

Yes, they can. There are LOTS of "tropical" fish out there and many of them are compatible with goldfish. The idea that goldfish are "cold water" fish is not so - goldfish are temperate fish, subtropical if you will. They live in a wide range of temperatures, with a great deal of overlap with "tropicals". Too, it's not accurate to think that all tropical fish need 80 degree water, because many don't.

Like with ANY stocking combination, it's all a matter of which fish are chosen. Saying they can't be kept with any tropical fish is no different that saying that they can be kept with every tropical fish. Rather than blindly following "rules", it's better to examine the specific fishs requirements and see how they match up.
