What are some peaceful smallish top-dwellers for my tropical community 56gal? Would love schooling fish, but it isn't a deal breaker.

Not wild about hatchetfish.

Water is very alkaline, so soft water species won't do well

I'd boost the number of cories. Hm I'll just search some top dwelling fish now

Yes I want at least three more cories! But it's a cube style tank and there is not a single thing going on up there

Agreed! Furcata or threadfin rainbows are always very pretty top dwellers.

Ohhhhh I love the furcata! Hard to find, but so so so beautiful!
