Switching my filters... help Fluval U2

Hi guys,

I just wanted to know some opinions.

I am looking a changing my superfish XL filter over to having only a Fluval U2 filter as I like it better and it looks easier to clean etc.

I have had the superfish running for around 1.5 years And and I have only just added the Fluval into the tank.

My question is how long would I have to wait before I can finally discontinue using the superfish And solely rely on the U2 filter for the Good bacteria to have built up.

If you can put the filter media from the superfish into the fluval you shouldn't have to wait at all

Forgot to mention the filter media is double the size in the old filter so won’t fit in the new one, hence the annoying reason of having to wait

Can you cut it? I've take razors to the filter media on the cartridges that wouldn't fit the new filter
