Yes krylon is safe if you don't put it in until you give it a few days to really dry

the suggested time for krylon fusion to dry, is 7-14 days. after 7 days it becomes "chip resistant"

Also depending on the weather where you are it might take a little bit longer. Not like a month or anything just an extra day it so. If possible keep it somewhere where the temp is constant.
