Just done a water test with my api test kit, readings are PH-7.4, AM-0, NI-0 and NA-20. That's before my PWC. Is the nitrate a bit high or is that normal?

Yes that's fine, just don't let them get any higher! I think round about 0-20 is great!
 
Thanks Christine, yes my tank has been running for about 3 months.
 
The colour of the nitrate reading was a bright orange which I'm guessing is the 4th colour down on the chart??
 
Its tricky. I can never tell with mine. I actually stopped testing trates regularly because I can never tell the difference! I hear that there is a more reliable trates test. I can't think of the name for the life of me. It'll come to me!
