Okay I feel a little silly asking this considering I've had fish for years now...but I just noticed on tetras aquasafe it says it makes tap water safe for fish. It says it takes out chlorine and chloramine and toxic metals in tap water but it doesn't say anything about ammonia... or is that what the chloramine is or what?:ermm:

Dechlorinators break the chlorine/ammonia bond that is chloramine. So when you use a dechlorinator in water that has chloramine, ammonia is left in the system.

It's not really that unusual though, and if the tank is cycled it will deal with it in short order.

The nice thing about Prime or Amquel+ is that they temporarily detoxify ammonia temporarily, but it's really not a must-have in a well functioning tank.
