I have tiger barbs in my tank for the first time--five of them. Occassionally one of them will turn almost completely horizontal and flutter their fins rapidly.

They all look healthy so I am assuming this is some kind of social behavior??? Does anyone know what this is?

I've never seen horizontal. But I've also never bred or spawned them... It certainly isn't normal from my experience, and if it isn't breeding behavior then I would be worried...

No problem.

Only bad thing is they do it in a tank with 3 pictus cats, 2 synodontis cats, 2 jack dempseys, 2 jewels, 24 giant danios and Gonzo the pleco. No chance for eggs to last an hour, much less to hatching.

I think if I had gotten that behavior I may have stuck with them. I traded all mine in a while back. I still think I will go back to them at some point, perhaps in a species tank.

Thanks again!
