okay so i was thinking of using some bricks to make a cave of some sort in a corner of my tank, is it the same way as testing a rock is able to be used?

I'm not sure, but I'd assume so. Test with some acid (vinegar). I'd assume bricks are just fired clay...

If you're using the regular red bricks, I think they're made of nothing but clay. Might want to get some more answers though. They might also start dissolving into your water after a while.

I've seen people use bricks in ponds to raise equipment off the bottom. Red clay is generally iron-rich, which can lead to algae issues. Not sure if it would be a problem with bricks, but it's a thought. That said, if it passes the acid test, I'd use it.
