Vacuuming sand

I have had an African cichlids tank going for over 4 years and have always vacuumed the sand during weekly water changes without issue.. I am reading now that some do not because it is not healthy... Was just wondering what people in the forum think..

I hover over the sand to get all the waste up and stir up the surface.

Yea same here.... Was just reading through some old posts and some said it was better to let the solid waste break down....seeing waste on the sand always drives me nuts ...
