Water bug? Did I get lucky and get some weird shrimp?

Better pic would be nice, but it looks like a dragonfly/mayfly/other fly larva to me.

Some sort of insect larvae, not something you want to keep with small fish, nice snack for larger fish.

the body profile definitely makes me think dragonfly nymph (I'm a fly fisherman so I spend a lot of time staring at bugs), so I'd not keep it with small fish as they are efficient predators.

lol, yeah its a type of nymph. It would attack small things like shrimp. Good thing you squished it
