Ok so my brother suggested the use of a cypon for my water change today.

So i got the 4ft rubber tube and inserted it into my aquarium.
So u suck on the syphon to start the flow Aaaaaand
I first got a mouthfull of fish water
Is that bad?
I rinsed after
Then My checkered barb is sucked up and dumped into the bucket
so yeah hes fine now but should i be using a syphon in the future?
As always i use aquarium conditioner (tetra plus)
My bro also uses this "stress zyme" product along with the water condition should i look into that?
And is there a better water conditioner out there?

Yeah i feel like a complete noob right now lol

Ok. I'm going to suggest a few things for you. 1st, Python Aquarium Gravel Cleaner: Python No Spill Clean and Fill Aquarium Maintenance System at Petco

2nd, Clear cloudy aquarium water & remove excess nitrates with Algone

3rd (saved the best for last,) Aquatic Life

Algone is affordable...the other 2 are a bit pricy but WELL worth the investment. Please throw away the siphon. :):fish2:

Stress Zyme is good to use, as well as Stress Coat. Be careful using Stress Coat because too much use in a 24-48 hour time frame can lower pH. It wouldn't hurt to buy a freshwater test kit as well.

sbruce - I like your suggestion of the python. You can also use this if you have a small 10 gallon tank:

Aqueon Siphon with Bulb Vacuum Aquarium Gravel Cleaner at PETCO

But Algone used as part of maintenance doesn't seem right to me. A healthy tank should have crystal clear water anyways with low nitrates. Seachem Safe or Prime decholorinator will remove ammonia from your tank whilst neutralizing chlorine. It's also well priced. Safe at $31 at Amazon.com will last you for YEARS.

A PH controller? If you are using C02, yes, but no other reason.

Blue - I've had a mouthful of aquarium water and it's gross but it didn't kill me. :)
