Water hardness

My tank has been setup for about a year now and the water stays pretty much the same the only problem I have is my water is pretty hard. I can't remember the number right now but it's always been on the highest end of the test strips. Should I be concerned about it? The fish all seem fine but would they be happier if it were softer?
