Do betta's need a heater if they have there own tank. We keep it around 70-72 degrees in the apartment.
 
They don't need a heater per se, but I would strongly reccomend one. From personal experience I can vouch that in the winter time the temp can drop really fast, especialy in the smaller tanks bettas are usually kept it.
 
a better temp for them is probably 75-80.

Most important, however, is a steady temp. that rises or drops no more than a degree or so in a day.
