What are my Blue Gourami's doing???

I have a male and a female blue gourami. Just recently they have starting putting their mouths together then they back up and stick their "feelers" (I do not know the technical term for them) out then go back and do it again. While doing this their color darkens...after doing it a few times the female goes to the top of the the tank (like shes going to get a gulp of air) and the male swims around one of the filters. They do it several times a day. I've seen them do what people call the "mating dance" but what the heck is it they are doing with their mouths??? I'm very curious. Thanks.
